The historic city of York and the seaside resorts of Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, Filey and picturesque Robin Hood's Bay are within easy driving distance.  The spectacular North York Moors and many North Yorkshire villages are just minutes away by car, and can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Thornton-le-Dale is very popular and hosts a classic car museum.(click for www link)

Byland Abbey, between Thirsk and Helmsley, North Yorkshire.  Lovely medieval ruin set in peaceful meadows.

Rievaulx Abbey, near Helmsley.  Remains of largest monastic establishment in Britain.
Rievaulx Terrace & Temples.  Two mid 18th century temples.  Elaborate ceiling paintings, fine old 18th century furniture.

York Minster  Largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.

Dalby, the Great Yorkshire Forest, near Pickering. 8000 acres of woodland with a 9 mile scenic drive & over 30 miles of cycle trails.

Duncombe Park, Helmsley.  One of the finest restored houses in Yorkshire.
